Front Seat Frame Repair

Mk4 Zodiac Seat Back Repair

The interior of the Zodiac isn't bad - most wear is, of course, on the driver's seat.  The seat back is also broken near the top, making it unstable and uncomfortable.

So, out with the seat and off with the upholstery on the back.

Lots of those finicky hog rings at the top & bottom.

This is the broken part - all the spot welds had failed where this upper support is attached to the back tubular frame.

Drilled out the spots so I can plug-weld it to the frame.

Unfortunately, some of the springs are broken as well.  No good welding them, they will have to be replaced.  I don't have any spares available right now, so that is a job for another day.

As it is, the seat is stable and reasonably comfortable.  May get away with just replacing the upholstery panel on the seat top at the front - although I guess colour matching may be a problem?  Some cheapo seat covers will protect them from further damage in the meantime.
